RS200 and Turbonetics GTK450

So the turbo and external wastegate have now arrived for the Honda Integra B18 Turbo. The turbo itself is a Turbonetics GTK450 which is a twin ball raced turbo with ported inlet. The turbo is pictured below along with the Turbosmart 38mm high temp external wastegate.

We also have a Ford RS200 in for tuning, set-up and tweeking. It is nice to have one of these iconic group B rally cars.

The Gray S2 RS Turbo goes back to its owner this week and we now have a Black one from Inverness to do a simular conversion - watch this space.

Honda Integra B18 Turbo Conversion

Here are some pictures of a customer's car that we are building. It is going to be a turbo Honda Integra B18. Basicly it has a standard bore and stroke B18 engine using Worsner slipper pistons, Eagle forged crank, Eagle forged rods, ACL race bearings, new oil pump, new water pump, flowed head with Skunk2 valves. This gives a compression ratio of 7.5. The inlet manifold has been modified by Sitech Racing as is the AEM fuel rail and regulator. Other components for the build include 1000cc injectors, Turbonetics GTK450 turbo, Turbosmart ultragate 38mm external wastegate, Gotech stand alone managment, uprated clutch, lightweight flywheel.

Sitech Racing, manifolds, Fiesta Turbos, Escort Turbos

Over the last few week we have been busy an usual. We had a very well prepared Fiesta RS Turbo running a ZVH with Gotech Pro-X. The owner brought the car up from England to have the mapping tweaked and have the geometry set up.

We also made one of our inlet manifold for a ZVH engine using an EFI head.

The amazingly mint S2 Escort RS Turbo is still with us, the owner having instructed us to carry out more work. Fitting a set of Autometer guages at the moment.

Mitsubishi GTO Photoshoot at Sitech Racing

Adrian Brannan from AB Carpix was in last week to get a few photos of the Underground Graphics Mitsubishi GTO. We were very pleased with the images especially since it was raining turing the shoot and was starting to get dark.

Full set of photos from the shoot are available in the Underground Graphics Portfolio

Sitech Racing at Knockhill Track Day and Weekly Update

Last week provided an interesting range of cars to work on ranging from a Mercedes CLK to a mk1 Fiesta.

The week also saw the Sitech Racing demo car #1 on a Knockhill track day. With the car set on low boost (20psi) it again performed perfectly while harassing a BMW M3 CSL for many laps.

Pauls S2 is so near completion, we're just waiting on the last part arriving.

The mk1 Fiesta has had a little bit of body welding and now is awaitng its RS1800 engine and box.

Ady's mk3 Escort has had all of its chassis mods carried out, so time to fit a new 2.0 ZVH with Gotech Engine Management.

Sitech Racing, Clios, inlet manifolds and brake upgrades

So this week at Sitech Racing agin has been quite varied.

Started with a oil cooler up grade on a Mitsubishi GTO which included a new set of oil lines as the old set had perished!

Had a Mondao in for a big brake conversion. It got a set of mk3 calipers along with a pair of Focus ST 170 discs (300mm) we also fitted Goodridge hoses and Neo brake fluid. We had to make a 4mm thick caliper spacer to fit.

Still continuing with the S2 rebuild, final stages now.
Here is the Sitech inlet manifold that is fitted to the car. They sell at £450

We have a Clio 172 Cup in for its inlet manifold matching, timing belt and a set up.

Dyno day - Good result for GTO and Escort RS turbo

There was a dyno day organised by Clan Japan at the weekend at Hypertech.

Scott's Mitsibishi GTO powered by a Sitech Racing built engine achieved 376bhp on the rollers running larger turbos and a few tweaks.

The Sitech Racing demo car ran well also, with 380bhp but wheelspin beyond 380bhp prevented a higher reading been taken.

Paul's S2 RS Turbo project is coming along nicely and should be complete in a week.

We also have sold another one of our inlet manifolds.

Fast Ford at Crail Raceway and a new GT30 Turbo

So last week a new Garrett GT arrived for the Sitech Racing Escort. It came from AET Turbos down south. The turbo has been built to allow a higher boost pressure to be achieved and flow some Nos.

On Sunday Fast Ford were at the Crail Raceway Drag Strip. The Sitech Racing Escort RS performed well all day and posted a best time of 13.3 sec which was the fastest Ford FWD time of the day.

Also the Mitsibushi GTO of Scott which is maintained and set up by Sitech Racing, performed very well on it maiden run up the strip, posting a quarter mile time of 13.7sec.

Another busy week!

This week we have had a Fast Ford photo shoot for a customer with a restored S1 Escort RS Turbo. Just discovered it is the only Ford prepared S1 in gray! so I guess its RARE. It will be appearing in Fast Ford soon.

The black S2 Escort has been stripped and the knocking sound from the engine diagnosed as the pistons and rods having been installed the wrong way round!! Hello Piston Slap.
The Underground Graphics Mitsubishi GTO has had its rebuilt gearbox installed, I am quite looking forward to getting out and mapping the 2.2 Bar of boost that it will be running. We also finished the additional roll cage bars and got them TIGed into the GTO.

Collected a fully resprayed and smothed S2 Escort RS Turbo undergoing a nut and bolt rebuild, this will become the big job for the remainder of this week and next as we put it back together. This car has had a 2.0 ZVH bult using Cosworth rods and Mahle pistons, Newman cams, Sitech head and head gasket and GT28 turbo.

Also collected the Forged crank and full gasket set for the Honda Integra DC2, its going to be a very quick car when finished with its GT30 Turbo Conversion.

Turbos and more turbos

This week we mostly have been working on Turbos. It started off with a Sierra Cosworth with a missfire, that was diagnosed to faulty map sensor wiring and a worn fuel pump with an old fuel filter.

Next job was to set up and improve a Peugeot 106GTI track car with a turbo conversion. The extra fuelling was supplied by a MF2 5th injector kit. End result was a very nippy 106 GTI turbo.

We also have started another ST170 Turbo conversion using CP 86mm pistons and Eagle rods. We have reworked the head a little to improve the gas flow.

There is also an Ford Escort turbo on the ramp awaiting a bottom end rebuild, just waiting for parts.

Turbo Charging Integra DC2, Pulsar SR20DET Rebuild and Sitech at Crail Raceway

During the last week we have been stripping a Honda Integra DC2 engine in order to turbo it, which involves low comp pistons and stronger forged rods with a forged crank.

Also we have been upgrading the Underground Graphics GTO twin turbo with more boost pressure and welding some extra bars into to the roll cage.

The Sitech Escort ran the quarter mile for USSC at Crail Raceway where it achieved 8 runs with a best time of 13.3 @ 108 running only 18psi of boost pressure.

We have also rebuilt a Nissan Pulsar SR20DET engine to include new bearings and reshimed it's cylinder head.

Motorsport Engine Management and Preparation

Sitech Racing Head Gasket
Sitech Racing were featured as a Specialist Ford Tuner in their September 2008 edition of Fast Ford magazine for their impressive work on Fords for customers throughout the UK. One thing the guys picked up on when they went to visit is that Sitech are one of the few firms who can genuinely claim to be 'motorsport' or 'racing'. Services offered are far more than just include bolting on off the shelf parts, knowledge gained at the top levels of motorsport allow Sitech to offer fast road and track preparation including geometry and aero setup as well as in house fabrication and development. This is what Fast Ford had to say about Sitech's Motorsport Pedigree.

Sitech Racing’s head man Simon Smail instantly strikes you as a calm fella who knows his stuff. This comes from his long competitive background. This dates as far back as 1987, where he was the Scottish schoolboy champion in motorcross. This planted the seed for a lifelong obsession to motorsport and a career path many are envious of. After starting out in the RAF as a mechanic, Simon quickly moved into competition engine building where he learned all about engine preparation and tuning, with a bit of track support. This soon saw him progress to Pilbeam Race and Design as a racecar mechanic, where he also learned TIG welding, fabrication and machining. Simon had a heavy involvement with its Pilbeam Le Mans SR2 sports car, which won its first ever race at Donington with Simon in charge of the build and running of the vehicle. From here, in 2000 Simon got the job as a mechanic progressing to chief mechanic for the Peugeot HTML Touring Car team. Under his guidance HTML won the BTCC production class! After this high Simon spent the next four years at McLaren-Mercedes F1 initially on the test team with a few outings to various GPs spannering for Kimi and Montoya. During his time in F1 Simon impressed his peers and was promoted to Racing & Test Team parts coordinator, giving him responsibility for the F1 McLarens braking, hydraulics and engine. After such an illustrious career path it’s safe to say Sitech is more than qualified to ensure you get the most from your Ford.

Fast Ford Visit for Specialist Feature

Sitech Racing received a 6 page Fast Tech Specialist feature in Fast Ford.

Recognising the most recent handling and aero modifications to our own Demo Car the guys from the magazine are impressed with the full package: Having been out in this car at Croft we’ve seen just how potent and stable it is. Power is one thing, but the way the car puts it down and grips is phenomenal. It holds a few records already and there is no doubt on the right day it will claim even more.

If you want to go fast, handle well or go completely bonkers, Sitech Racing can do it.

Scottish GTO-UK Mini Meet

Some of the Scottish members of the GTO-UK club came to visit Sitech Racing on 29th December 2007. The llads were keen to find out more about what we offer for the big Mitsubishi after hearing about us having worked on some of their other members' cars. Five cars attended and we hope to be working on more GTOs in the near future.

Just wanted to say thanks to Simon for putting up with us mooching around all day and supplying us with coffee. It was really good to get a chance to get together before the new year and have a collective beard stroke with some engineering lessons thrown in! I think everyone enjoyed themselves and gave us a chance to get to know Simon a bit better.

Underground Graphics GTO Ready For Track

The Underground Graphics Mitsubishi GTO is now ready for the track with the map completed, engine run in and having been fitted with a Cusco 6pt Roll Cage.

Final weigh in showed just over 1400kg, a significant drop on the standard car.

Underground Graphics GTO Project Update

Everything started coming together for the Underground Graphics Mitsubishi GTO Project this month after some unusually long waiting times for parts to be supplied. The engine is fully built and back in the car. It has a compression ratio of 8.4:1 and should run 23 to 25 psi. An Odyssey PC925 Drycel battery has been fitted in the boot and mounted with one of Odyssey's own battery specific tie downs. A lot of excess parts have been removed to reduce weight further including excess bits of wiring loom, speaker enclosures, carpet trim and steel brackets. A Pit Road M Short Shift was also fitted as the standard shifter was showing signs of wear.

The next stages will involve running the engine in and adjusting the map.
